To everyone's regret, Jaesung Yoo falled
to set a new record
The key to setting a new record was a hard training
and cash reward. Now 70 million won was promised to anyone who can
set a record in 2 hours 13 minutes range. At the 56th Game, Jaejung
Yoo did his best but regrettably his record was 2 hours 15 minutes
and 48 seconds. In the women's part, Eunjoo Im became the winner
for 3 consecutive years with 2 hours 45 minutes and 6 seconds

the 57th Game in 1986, the year Asian Game was scheduled to be
held in Seoul, Korean marathoners accomplished remarkable records
with promise of further development in the future. Jaesung Yoo set
a new record of 2 hours 14 minutes and 6 seconds. 5 Korean runners
passed the finished line in 15 minute range promising a better result
next time. The world record was in the 7 minute range but for Jaesung
Yoo, 12 minute range looked like a challenge he can meet. In the
women's part, Mikyung Kim outran Eunjoo Im and became the winner.
Janghee Lee and four others set a new Korean
At the 58th Game in 1987, the Korean marathon finally succeeded
in entering the 12 minute range. Jonghee Lee passed the finish line
with a record of 2 hours 12 minutes and 21 seconds and four others
also set the records in the 2 hour and 12 minute range.
Wontak Kim and two others werw engaged in heated competition
The Dong-A Marathon now put more emphasis on who sets a new record
rather than on who comes first. Wontak Kim, who was the 3rd winner
at the last race passed the finish line first with a record of 2
hours 12 minutes and 41 seconds. In the women's part, Meeok Lee
was the first winner with a record of 2 hours 33 minutes and 14

At the 60th Game, a new face, Jungtae Im became the first winner.
Many veteran marathoners participated in the Game but, they did
not produce much in terms of the record. In the women's part, Meeok
Lee won the first medal again.
